I am not the kind of holidaymaker that usually writes travelling reviews or comments on travel experiences, mainly because I find it really difficult to enjoy or accomplish all of my plans in one single travel journey, but these recent Cuba holidays not only made me want to write about them, but also captivated me enough to make me want to go more frequently to this beautiful island.

As I said I am different to a lot of tourists I know, who are just pleased with twin centre holidays or pre-packaged holidays, a tour of ten days or a tailor made programme. I prefer to be on my own, custom-make my travel plans, maybe book a couple of nights at a basic hotel and then do my own discovering in the destination I choose. In regards to these past holidays in Cuba, I need to say that this island is ready to offer all kind of holiday options for people like me who don’t like to follow the touristy route and prefer to explore off the beaten track. Cuba is perfect for enjoying a great friendly and safe atmosphere everywhere you go; it has a unique charm in terms of rich history, culture and religion. In Cuba I was able to select from various places to visit and enjoy several different sites in the island such as museums, restaurants, paladares (private restaurants owned by locals, typically inside their homes), famous, iconic and popular bars in Havana like La Bodeguita del Medio, Floridita, Two Brothers and many others. The beaches in Cuba are wonderful and the tan you get there leaves your skin nicely sunkissed and positively glowing.

I loved the baseball games at the Latino Stadium, one of the most famous (and largest) baseball stadiums in the country though this sport is practiced everywhere you go in the island. I enjoyed the domino competitions on the streets, the local handcraft markets, the Ballet performances and of course; the professional service of the Viazul Bus Company, which takes you to all 15 provinces in the island.

This kind of own travel arrangement and self-made adventure is exactly what I like to experience whenever I am abroad, and Cuba had all I needed to enjoy a different but still exciting holiday, easily created, custom-made and put together by me.
